Victorian 18ct Gold Armorial Signet Ring

Exquisite piece: a Victorian 18ct gold armorial signet ring. In a rich buttery 18ct yellow gold.

The ring reads 'Fall Nothing Off' possibly denoting to the nautical meaning of the command to the steersman to keep the ship near the wind. See Glossary of Nautical Terms (circa. 1814). The command is instructing the steersman to maintain the ship's course close to the wind, preventing it from drifting away from its intended path, crucial for maximizing efficiency and achieving the desired direction. Perhaps a good luck intention, for the wearer to be safe and stay on course on their journey.

The signet features a dragon, supposed to have good eyesight to guard treasure, said to be a valiant creature and thus valiant defender of treasure. Dragons were also thought to symbolise power and protection.

The ring features a face measuring 18mm x 10mm, showcasing a finely detailed armorial seal (refer to photos). Thoroughly tested to confirm its 18ct gold. It weighs 4.7 grams and is sized at a UK L / USA 5 3/4. The ring has undergone re-sizing and remains in good condition. Enhance your jewellery collection with this distinguished and historically significant find.
