Vintage Silver Cow Creamer, 925.
Vintage Silver cow creamer with fly design to back of hinged lid.
The cow creamer is an example of mid-Georgian humour, it is a jug for serving cream with tea but disguised as a cow. First appearing in the 1750s, the connection between the form and its function is obvious. These miniature models became popular with upper class households and a vast number of different models survive today.
This model is a 'Naturalistic' cow creamer, synonymous of the most talented silversmiths of 19th century England who used all of their skills to make the most naturalistic cow creamers to date.
A certain conversation piece with a humorous history for good measure, no pun intended.
